This industry-focused course is designed for healthcare workers, disability support staff, aged care employees, cleaners, waste management workers, community services teams, and any workplace where exposure to sharps, biological hazards, or infectious waste may occur. Participants gain practical skills in the safe handling, disposal, and management of contaminated materials to reduce the risk of injury, infection, and workplace incidents.

From 1 July 2026, NSW PCBUs must comply with approved WHS Codes of Practice or implement alternative measures that provide an equivalent or higher standard of health and safety. SafeWork NSW’s 2026 Collection and Transport of Waste and Healthcare and Social Assistance Industry Codes identify sharps and infectious waste as workplace hazards requiring appropriate controls, including worker training.
